When you file a claim, here is what you should know
Ethiopost compensates lost items according to the class of mailand destination. A claim can be filed by the sender or the recipient. When filing a claim, be sure to have the original mailing receipt issued by the postal or logistics service provider. Claims must be filed within a specific time period for each mail class: for EMS, claims must be filed within 10-120 days after the mail was sent. For Parcel Mail, claims must be filed within 30 -180. Claim applications filed outside of this period will not be accepted.
Claims for Domestic Mail
For packages sent through EMS and Parcel Mail , Ethiopost will compensate up to 2,500 Ethiopian birr depending on the assessed value of the mail for which a claim was filed. For letters sent through EMS, customers will be compensated up to 400 Ethiopian birr depending on the assessed value of the mail.
Claims for International Mail
Compensation for disputed international mail will depend on the customs declaration document filled out by the sender. Disputed mail sent through EMS will be compensated up to 130 Special Drawing Rights (SDR)* while Parcel Mail are compensated up to 150 Special Drawing Rights (SDR) (To get an estimate of the conversion rate between SDR and ETB, please see here).
