With the largest worldwide network, EMS offers the fastest cross-border postal service with secure tracking every step of the way. EMS is an expedited mail delivery service for which the customer pays a small premium for faster delivery. Express mail is a service for domestic and international mail and is governed by Ethiopost in Ethiopia.

EMS is a high-priority postal service provided by an international network of over 170 countries.  In Ethiopia, EMS customers can expect to have their mail  delivered within 5 business days. Through EMS, customers can track their packages every step of the way through the largest interconnected network with the highest number of customer access points.   

The allowable weight for EMS packages through Ethiopost is up to 31.5 kg. The weight limit is subject to change depending on the destination of the package; this is to be compliant with the regulations of other countries. The delivery date is dependent on various factors including the speed of the receiving country’s and transit countries’ postal service. EMS has an estimated delivery date of five business days. Meanwhile, regular mail, parcel mail, and registered mail may take up to 20 business days to be delivered.

 

Yes, Ethiopost does ship electronic devices but an export permit is needed to send them internationally.

Customers can not pack their packages as we have our own standardized packages.

 

Your full name and address go on the top left corner of the back of your envelope (or the top of your package). Your recipient’s full name and address will be on the bottom right of the back of the envelope. For more information, please ask any of our counter attendants who will be happy to assist you.

Customers should be encouraged to package their fragile items carefully and consider purchasing insurance to cover any packages about which they are concerned. Additional insurance is available for all mail classes. Ethiopost cannot guarantee fragile items will reach their destination undamaged.

You will need a copy of your CBE payment slip, along with the original, and proof of vehicle identification (libré) (copy and original). You may also make your payment at an Ethiopost branch handling road fund payment, but please be mindful that only payments made by card can be processed for road fund payments. If you are making a payment for someone other than yourself, along with the aforementioned requirements, you will need to present a valid power of attorney. You can view Ethiopost branch locations handling road fund payments here.

If your confirmation text does not indicate a specific branch, this means you will be collecting your mail from the Main Post Office. Please don’t hesitate to ask any of our counter attendants or the information desk for further information.

 

You can rent a post box at any of our branches. Boxes for personal use cost 600 Ethiopian birr annually, and 1200 Ethiopian birr for businesses.
