The Ethiopian People together with other progressive forces throughout the world celebrate the 13th Anniversary of the popular Revolution under the leadership of the WPE (Workers Party of Ethiopia). In commemoration of this event, the Ethiopian Postal Service issued a set of four stamps featuring the gains of the revolution among the most important events which have been scored.

Featured in the 5c stamp is the Draft Constitution leading to the founding of the People’s Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. Thus, the revolution has taken yet another moment one step forward marking an additional victory in the struggle of the working people and opening up new dimensions for greater victories in the future. Of those who registered to vote in the referendum a total of 14.035,718 or 81 per cent have supported the constitution, which was prepared through people’s participation and further enrich- [mended through popular discussion.

The 10c stamp shows the election of deputies to the National Shengo. The working People of Ethiopia went to elect people’s deputies for the National Shengo in accordance with the constitution of the PDRE. (People’s Democratic Republic of Ethiopia). The National Shengo is the highest organ for the manifestation of the working people’s ultimate source of power and is being constituted by people’s deputies with highest calibre and competence through the voting process that took place under the auspices of the National Electoral Commission. It is expected that the people’s deputies elected for the National Shengo will effectively fulfill the duties entrusted to them by the people.

The .80c stamp portrays the establishment of the People’s Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The masses are fully aware that the setting up of this supreme political organ has a decisive impact on the successful accomplishment of national tasks. The maturity attained by the masses as shown in the exercise of their democratic rights is the direct outcome of the struggle waged over the past years of the revolutionary process the ultimate objectives of which is to found the PDRE wherein justice equality and democracy will prevail. The masses are convinced that the establishment of the PDRE will enable them to directly wield political power after having traversed an arduous struggle and this is in conformity with the cardinal principle of the popular. Revolution which – has been to ascertain the ultimate supremacy of the working people.

Depicted in the 1.00 Birr stamp is the inauguration of the International Airport in Bahr Dar. The inauguration of the new international airport is of great significance as it is the first of its kind built by Ethiopian engineers. It symbolizes the spirit of self reliance and hard work on which Revolutionary Ethiopia firmly relies to achieve speedy socio economic development. The construction of new airports such as the one that recently opened in one of the historic and most beautiful parts of Country has great potentials in promoting the tourism industry and in enhancing socio economic development.
