Childhood, a time of hope and promise, can also be a time of hardship, particularly in developing countries, where the burdens of poverty so often fall heavily on the young. The organization which helps the poor children and tries to make them a good citizen is the I Inked Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)
UNICEF was created by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in 1946 to meet the emergency needs of children in aftermath of World War II in Europe. Later it became a permanent part of the UN system with a broaden role to respond to the long-term needs of children living in poverty in developing countries.
UNICEF, the only UN organization dedicated exclusively to children: works with other UN agencies, government and non-basic countries. Among the services are basic health care. nutrition governmental organizations to provide community-based services in over. education for all, and safe water and sanitation. It aims to reduce the terrible toll the lack of such services takes on the world’s youngest citizen.
UNICEF works on behalf of children on the basis of need. without discrimination with regard to race. creed, nationality, status or political belief.
