Ethio-Djibouti Electrified Railway Train with a total length of 756.13 KM. links Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia in the west with the port of Djibouti in The east. The railway was constructed by two Chinese companies, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and China Railway Group Limited (CREC). Its construction beginning in April 2012, The Railway was officially inaugurated on October 5, 2016.

The Railway was officially taken over to the owner on December 31^st, 2017 and seen commercial operation on January 1^st, 2018. The joint venture of CCECC and CREC has been designated to manage and operate the railway for 6 Years.

Ethio-Djibouti Electrified Railway Train is the first railway line built with whole Chinese industry chain outside China which is of significance of introducing Chines standards overseas. Through the construction and Completion of Ethio-Djibouti Electrified Railway Train CCECC has opened up a Ethio-Djibouti Electrified Railway Train model that a railway opens up an economic belt along the corridor.

As Chinese news paper people’s daily put it in the article Ethio-Djibouti Electrified Railway Train model: A new sample of the belt and road initiative on October 11, 2016 that Ethio-Djibouti Electrified Railway Train model has made two points in Chinese economy going global.

1. Is to export the whole industry chain through the overseas railway projects with Chinese standards including construction equipment and operation.
2. The other is to develop an economic belt the newly-built railway for international capacity cooperation.

With regard the important of rail ways, different speakers that has been made by different higher officers to see same of them: Building roads and railways creates property in all sectors. We have accelerated the building of Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, China-Laos railway, Ethio-Djibouti Electrified Railway Train and Hungary-Serbia railway. A large number of connectivity project are also in the pipeline.
