King Lalibela was the ruler of Ethiopia in 11 century who lived in Lasta Lalibela. He was the founder of the eleven very wonder rock churches. These churches were constructed by making large hollow in the side of rocks. Today these rock. churches are regarded as worth of preservation, recorded in the World cultural Heritage lists and visited by many tourists. It is known of its historic buildings, monuments and ornaments.

Afro Ayigeba the cross of St. Lalibela is one of those admirable rock churches possession which is found in the famous Bet. Medhane Alem church. It! was found by the year 892 by king Lalibela.

According to the believers of Orthodox religion. the cross has the power of salvation, reconciliation and adoration. Because of these abilities it has got the name of Afro-Ayigeba. It means those who have faith in it and worship of search for good things they need it will give them without hesitation.

The size of the cross is 460×120 mm, and it has four bird heads at the sides. At the head round of the cross has a crown of stylized human figures as symbols of the twelve Apostles. Its color is golden & has two crosses at the head and inside it that is represents Jesus Christ.
