The New Birr Notes of Revolutionary Ethiopia

The new Ethiopian Birr notes have been issued on October 14, 1976.

These have been issued following the revolutionary process, the supremacy of the broad masses who are the owners of the Victory, their proud history culture, their work and progress and also on their firm belief and hope, on the revolution. On the other hand, the country’s rich natural resources are also represented.

One Birr 

On the front side of this Birr appears the effigy of a shepherd, son of a peasant farmer, and on the reverse, the great Tis Abai falls and a variety of Ethiopian birds.

Five Birr

On the front side of this Birr is seen a farmer picking Coffee beans. On the reverse side of this birr. appears in bold the picture of Walla, an animal found only in Ethiopia, together with hunter cat and elephants.

Ten Birr

On the front side of this Birr is seen a young girl making flat basket (sefed) and on the reverse side, a farmer tilling land with tractor.

Fifty Birr

Pupils are seen on the front side of this Birr while attending cuss, and on the reverse side appears the historic Gondar Castle built by the Ethiopian people in the ancient times.

One Hundred Birr

The front side of this Dirt pictures a patriot and the back side, that of a scientific researcher.

The reverse sides of ail Dirt notes have the insignia of a lion, which best ides being one of the wild life resource of Ethiopia, Symbolizes the strength and revolutionary zeal of the masses of the People.
